Laser Vein Therapy
Laser Treatment of Leg Veins
Many women and men are bothered by unsightly spider veins on their legs. Spider veins, or telangiectasias, are small red, blue and purple blood vessels that appear most frequently on the thighs. Varicose veins are larger in diameter and may appear raised with a bluish color.
Varicose veins can also be related to more serious vein disorders so they require a careful evaluation prior to treatment.
We are now able to provide safe and effective non-surgical treatment options for the removal of spider and some varicose veins. Our new, advanced Nd:YAG laser treatments allow us to deliver a precise dosage of energy to each vein. During the treatment, light energy is delivered though a special laser handpiece to the targeted vein. The light energy is absorbed by the blood vessels, but not the surrounding tissue. This heat absorption causes a coagulation (clotting) of the blood and damage to the vessel. The blood vessel is subsequently absorbed by your body.
The majority of the treated vessels will be gone within one or two treatments. For maximum long-term resolution, one or two additional treatments may be necessary. However, if new veins appear, additional treatments are generally required for optimum results. These treatments are spaced at least four weeks apart.
